Day 18 (5-23-17)

Today is our last official day working. The only thing we did today was brainstorm what we wanted to have at our table tomorrow for Express Fest. We had Becky print out our articles and we are going to print out some screenshots to show people the process behind the scenes. We got there at 10:30 and planned that out and finished up at about 11:30. It will be sad not working at the office every day, but I learned a lot and am glad I decided to do this for my project. Later that afternoon I helped Dan move tables from the Chapel to the theatre for Express Fest. Senior project was a great way to end the year and my Proctor career.

Day 17 (5-22-17)

Today started at 9:00 am in the office. The plan today was really easy since there were no games and we had pretty much finished everything up. We had to finish up our senior project reflection blog. We were already close to finished, but we added a few more things and sent our responses to Scott. After that, we filled out our time sheets and got them signed. We went over our hours minimum by three hours! Today was our last real day in the office which was sad. I had a lot of fun on senior project. Tomorrow we do have to go to the office, but the only thing left to do is print out our work for our table at express fest which should only take about an hour or so.

Day 16 (5-21-17) / Week 3 Reflection

Today started at 10:00 after the 5k at the fields. We had to make sure everything at the alumni games ran smoothly. We put out water and rode around in a golf cart with bug spray, snacks, and stickers and sunglasses. It was fun seeing alumni and watching the games although we were mad we couldn't drive the cart. I had to leave at 2:00 to strike the set from the musical. It is so sad that all of that work just goes away so fast.

This week we did a number of things. It was a very busy and exciting week of athletics so we did a lot of social media work. There were games almost every day, so we were busy finding schedules and livestream links. We also put a few articles and blogs out on the website. We also did a lot of work to finalize alumni game logistics like finding uniforms and scoreboards and running the cart. We also talked with Kieth Barrett about development and what goes on on the other side of the office. I really learned a lot this week and it was a fun last full week.

This week was really good. In the communications office they are having a really good problem to have. It is that they are fully caught up and they don't have a whole lot to work on so Scott would give us projects as they came up.

It was really cool publishing another article. It was our second article on the school website and it was exciting. I feel like we are very proficient with posting athletics on social media since we have been doing it for three weeks now.

Everything this week went smoothly and there wasn't anything that went wrong. The only thing that didn't go right was that all of our teams didn't win Lakes Region championships. We did get one though!!

I will benefit from this week’s activities because I have continued to gain experience in the field of communications and marketing. By putting out articles highlighting Lakes Region Tournaments and a team spotlight I feel like I have been doing exactly what I wanted to be doing when I signed up for my project.

I completed my written goals and continue to fulfill my athletic and marketing goals. As for my alumni goals, I have reached out to a number of alumni and have been talking to seniors. I completed my alumni goals today. I achieved everything and more than I was hoping to get out of Senior Project.

Day 15 (5-19-17)

Today started at 9:00 am in the office again. When we got settled, Scott assigned us a new writing assignment. We are going to write a reflection on senior project. We started working on that for the morning and Scott went to assembly at 10:00. We made some progress and when Scott went to assembly we went out to look for seniors to ask them about senior project. We had a hard time finding people, but we did talk to Jay Pier and Jared Abner and got a response from both of them. After we walked back to the office and at 11:00 we met with Kieth Barrett and Scott about the development office. We talked about fundraising and the endowment. We finished up at 12:00. It was cool to learn more about the money side of Proctor and the importance of donating to a non profit organization. I learned a lot today and am excited for the play tonight!.

Day 14 (5-18-17)

Today started off at 9:00 am in the office. Eamonn was going to be late today because he was home for the Celtics game the previous night. We are having a really good problem, which is not having anything to work on because we are so productive and everything is done. Scott asked me to go talk to Gregor about uniforms and scoreboards for the alumni games. When I got to his office, however, he wasn't there. As I was leaving, I got a text from Linda Sargent asking me to meet with her. I went up to her office she asked me to come to a meeting in the business office to talk about a day student lounge. This meeting was with Mike, Rachel, the architects, Linda, Sage, and I. We talked about potential ideas and spaces. We never came to a concrete answer, but we put out some very good ideas. The meeting ended at 10:00 and I went back to the office where I met Eamonn. Scott was at assembly, so we sat in the office and worked on individual projects. We then talked with Lindsay and Natasha about the musical and Lindsay was working on a slideshow for senior dinner that we talked about. Scott got back from assembly late because it was honors society day. When he got back we saw that Erica was in the development office and we wanted to talk to her because she is filling in in the equipment room. She was in a meeting so while we waited Scott sent us to get our yearbooks and his. We looked through those as we waited and when she was done we made a plan to meet at 11:30. At 11:30 we found the uniforms and put those in the equipment room so they will be ready for Sunday. Today was a good day, and tomorrow I think we are going to meet with Kieth Barrett to talk about the fundraising campaign.

Day 13 (5-17-17)

Today started at 9:00 at the office. We weren't sure what the plan was for the day, but when we got to the office Scott told us what we needed to do. We started the day with Chloe and we talked more about the alumni games. We then emailed younger alumni telling them that the games were this weekend and they should come and play and then go to the social at Lake Sunapee Country Club afterwards. There were a little over 200 people, so that took a lot of time to complete. Then we posted the athletics schedule and livestream links to all of the games for the day. Many teams were entering Lakes Region tournament play. When we finished that, we went through all of the senior project blogs and found pictures for Scott that will eventually use. This took up the rest of the day. Unfortunately I wasn't able to attend any of the games because I had my own practice, so the day ended at 11:00. The plan for tomorrow is undecided, but we will know in the morning.

Day 12 (5-16-17)

Today started at 9:00 am in the dining commons. Scott had a meeting until advisory this morning so we decided to stay in the dining commons. Our goal for today was to complete the team spotlight of girls and boys tennis and golf. We got all of our interviews and started putting the piece together. We worked hard for until 10:30 when we went back to the office. In the office is where we finished up the piece and found pictures for it. It was interesting to hear what the captains and seniors had to say about their respective teams. When we finished that, I worked on a Lakes Region Tournament preview piece that we published too. Almost all of our varsity teams are in the playoffs and many of them hold high seeds including multiple #1 seeds! When I finished that, Eamonn and I looked for pictures for an alumni game post. We looked through Flickr and the archives and found some good ones for Chloe. We finished up right at 12:00. Today was a good day and we got a couple of things published. I'm not sure what the plan is for tomorrow, but I'm certain that we will be hard at work!

Day 11 (5-15-17)

Today started at 9:00 am in the office. Eamonn was going to be late this morning because he was watching his sister play lacrosse yesterday in Ohio. I started the morning with posting the athletics schedule and the livestream links on Facebook and Twitter. After I completed that I started to work on this weeks team spotlight. This week we are doing a three in one spotlight on the girls and boys tennis teams and the golf team. I had to email the captains and coaches with questions and I hope they get back to me soon so I can put the piece together. I finished this at around 10 and Scott had to go to assembly and Eamonn came. While Scott was gone, Eamonn and I started to find pictures for the spotlights on Flickr and the archives. We finished up right when Scott was getting back from assembly and we went into the communications meeting. The meeting was busy today because these last two weeks are very busy for the communications teams because school is getting out and a lot of information that needs to go out to students and family. We talked through the plan for the week and what everyone on the team is doing. We ended with calling Becky to try to get a short piece about a Lakes Region Tournament preview. Unfortunately not all the teams are officially seeded yet because they are waiting for other teams to play games today. We got a rough draft and when we finished it was 12 so we called it a day. Tomorrow we hope to work on the spotlights with all of the quotes that we intend to get.

Week 2 Refection

This week I learned some things and continued to strengthen my knowledge about other things. For every game day we continued to post athletic schedules and livestream links, as well as results. We also did a lot of work helping with the 5k. We got a few sign ups and finished making the race bags for Kelly. We also started looking into the logistics of the alumni game day. I posted my piece on the musical and was pleasantly surprised to see that it got a lot of views. We continued working on our magazine article and finding pictures of the seniors that we interviewed. A job that wasn't too fun was cataloging the seats in the meeting house. You can donate and put your name on a seat and we had to write down all of the names on the seats so development can see what seats are left. It was a really productive week.

This week was really good. Scott was really busy with meetings and conferences this week, so a lot of our work was done independently. I really like how Scott trusts us to get our work done and he gives us a lot of freedom.

It was really cool publishing my article. It was my first article on the school website and it was exciting. I feel like we are very proficient with posting athletics on social media since we have been doing it for two weeks now.

I never realized that there were name plates on the seats in the meeting house and I would have never thought it would take us two days to write them all down. I was surprised that they didn't document that when they put one in.

I will benefit from this week’s activities because I have continued to gain experience in the field of communications and marketing. By putting out an article and marketing the play and the 5k I feel like I have been doing exactly what I wanted to be doing when I signed up for my project.

I completed my written goals and continue to fulfill my athletic and marketing goals. As for my alumni goals, I have reached out to a number of alumni and have been talking to seniors. We are also getting ready for the games, but I can't complete those goals until the days of. This week was another great week and I look forward to the last full week of senior project!

Day 10 (5-12-17)

Today started at 9:00 am in the meeting house. Scott was out of town today so we were flying solo. We finished the rest of the seats, however, they took out three rows for the musical so we couldn't finish but they can do that at a later time. The majority is finished. By the time we were doing the last seats, it was time for assembly. I took some pictures for Scott and enjoyed watching Eamonn lose in the first round of the game on stage. We sat through assembly and when it was over, we went to the training room with Kelly to make race bags. We made about 25 bags and we only have four or five left. The bags include tee shirts, race bibs, safety pins, and an ad for the company who sponsors the bibs. We finished that up at about 11:45 am and went to lunch in Concord. After lunch we came back to the trainers at 2:00 pm and helped for 15 minutes to finish up race bags and to get our full 3 hours for the day! This week has been a good week and I continue to learn and have fun with it. Senior project has been going really fast but it has been a really fun and great learning experience.

Day 9 (5-11-17)

Day 9 started off in the office at 9:00 am, per usual. Scott had meetings in the morning until 10:00 so we were on our own. Our first project was to post something on Facebook informing people of all of the great seasons that some of our teams are having. We have three teams who are undefeated. They are V Baseball (12-0), VB Tennis (6-0), and V Golf is undefeated in lakes region play (7-0) with their only loss coming to a talented Philips Exeter squad. Softball and BV Lax are off to great starts too! We scheduled that out and then we worked on our senior memories article. We realized that we had way too many responses from guys compared to girls so we searched for senior girls who could give us a memory. At 9:55 we met Kelly and each of us went to a different spot to get kids to sign up for the 5k during elections. I went to the meeting house to get juniors to sign up. We needed about 10 kids and I think we got eight! After a successful trip we had to do a pretty tough project for the development and alumni offices. We had to catalog every seat in the meeting house and write down every little plaque on the chairs. I didn't know this, but you can make a donation and have your name put on a chair in the theatre. We got about two thirds of this done before we called it a day at 12. We wound up never seeing Scott because he got back from his meetings when we went to the meeting house and when we were done he had other meetings. I think it is cool how he lets us go on our own and he trusts that we will do a good job! This was one of those jobs that no one really wants to do, but it needs to get done. We will have to go back over there tomorrow and finish up. A problem is that they took out three rows of seats in the section that we didn't do for the musical so we will be missing three rows but I guess they can do that next year! After that, I went to New London with Bones and we got lunch and played a quick nine holes of golf. It was a good way to take some energy out from sitting in the theatre for the majority of my day. It was also a good way to end the day before play practice. Tomorrow we have to finish the meeting house project and I'm not sure what else we have, but there will be something!

Day 8 (5-10-17)

Today started like any ordinary day. We met in the office at 9:00 am. The first task was to post the athletics schedule and the livestream links. There were four home games today and a lot of away games. Next, Scott needed our help putting names of alumni who are involved in education into a spreadsheet. This sheet included graduation date, position, where they lived, and where they worked. We had a list of all of the people's names, but we couldn't fully fill out each column for everyone. We are going to get some help from Bonnie or Debbie. This project took up most of our morning. When we finished we went out and got a picture for the Instagram page and then we went back to the office. When we got back, Scott said that Chloe had some projects for us. Our last project of the day was to put Property of Proctor stickers on the centerpieces for senior dinner. We didn't quite finish, but we can finish tomorrow. Then I spent some time at the lax, softball, and baseball games (all wins!!) and tweeted out some scores. Other projects for tomorrow include going to the meeting house and mapping out the seats and who has donated which seat, cutting out labels, and finishing the stickers. We are also going to try to get the last 10 people signed up for the 5k at elections!

Day 7 (5-9-17)

Once again we started at 9:00 am in the office. The plan today was to finish yesterday's list and get my writing out on the website. We started by writing out interviews from seniors about their favorite memories at Proctor onto a google sheet and organized everything so we can send it to Becky who is Proctor's graphic designer. This is for the next issue of the Proctor Magazine. We finished up at around 9:30 so I started finishing up my reflection piece for the website. The writing was done so all I had to do was to paste photos into the article. While I found pictures, Scott touched up some things and did a last minute polish to the article. I put the photos in and we published it. I was really excited to have my first solo piece on the website and I am excited to see how many people read it and if I convince them to try a musical or come to this years show!

You can read the article here!

When that was published I went into the photo archives and found pictures of the kids who we interviewed. It was really cool to look through the archives because you can search someones name and all of the pictures that you are in pop up. The funniest person was Reilly Walsh because there were pictures of him as a small child to a senior in high school. Today was a great day! I am not sure what the plan is for tomorrow, but I'm sure we'll be busy!

Day 6 (5-8-17)

Today started at 9:00 am in the office. Scott told us that he would be in and out of the office today because he had meetings. He left us a list of things to do. The list started with posting the athletic schedule on HubSpot. There were five games today and two of them were home. Next we had to post livestream links and the only home game that was livestreamed was softball. We wrote what we wanted them to say and then we scheduled to post them a little later. This is possible because of HubSpot. It allows you to pick what accounts you want to post from and you can schedule posts throughout the day. After we sent those off we ran over to assembly to collect 5k signup sheets so we could get people to sign up at lunch. When we got back we peer edited our blogs. Eamonn did a good job critiquing me and I edited his article which is fantastic. Hopefully mine will go out tomorrow or Wednesday. Editing took a lot of the day. Before we left for lunch we stopped in to see Chloe to try to form a alumni gameday checklist which includes uniforms, refs, clock, equipment, and other logistics. We plan to make a more complete list tomorrow, but we got a good start. We left the office and got to lunch at 12. At lunch we set up shop at a table and tried to get people to sign up for the 5k. In one hours work we got two sign ups and a repeat signup. There were a lot of kids who said they were already signed up. I don't believe all of them, but we did get two more than they already had! Today was a good day. Scott said he had a lot of meetings tomorrow too, so we will do a lot of independent work again.

Week 1 Reflection

I learned a lot this week. It started off with learning about knowing who your audience is depending on the piece you are writing. Next I learned how to use HubSpot and how to post game schedules and livestream links on Proctor’s social media pages. I learned what the alumni association was and what they are trying to do. I learned how to make a weekly planner on trello.com and a new way to manage my time. I also learned what everyone who is on campus for senior project was doing. I learned that the 5k has almost reached its goal of 200 participants. I learned about the softball team and how to write, format, and publish a blog post. I learned that not every task is very fun or easy. I learned about 200 alumni’s names and emails and how to email a large group of people by hand.

I really liked what I did this week. In the first week of senior project, Scott threw me right into the mix of things. In the first week I helped publish an article for the blog, emailed alumni, interviewed fellow seniors, posted numerous tweets and Facebook posts on social media accounts, and I wrote the first draft of my next piece that I am going to publish. All of these tasks have been really interesting to me and I have enjoyed doing them.

There are two activities that I was asked to do that I think I know why. The first one was talking to seniors about their best memories at Proctor and taking pictures of senior projects in action. I think I was asked to do this because they are my friends and classmates and I have a better relationship than if a teacher or faculty member were to ask. The second one is writing a piece on the musical. I know I was asked to do this because I am doing the musical for the first time and I am going to reflect on this experience.

Everything pretty much happened as expected except I didn't think that sending 200 emails would take more than 2 hours!

I will benefit from this week’s activities because I already have the experience now, so next week when I am asked to write something, I will have a good idea how to write, format, and publish it. I also benefit from talking to people because it is strengthening my already pretty strong trait, but I think being able to talk to people is very important in life.

This week checked off a few of my goals. One of which was posting two pieces on the website. I can now check off one. I also have helped out with game days and tweeting during games. I have been working closely with Scott understanding the communications efforts and trends too.

Day 5 (5-5-17)

Today started at 9:00 am in admissions. I had to give a tour to a prospective student and his father. He was a nice kid and we finished up at assembly and I walked them back to admissions. This was a good way to practice my communications and marketing skills to try and persuade a student to attend my school. I feel like this was a good way to measure my abilities and I think I did a pretty good job. At 10:30 I went up to the office and worked on my piece. I am writing a personal reflection about being a first time actor in the musical. The goal is to tell people my story and show them what it means to not only label yourself as one thing. I borrowed a pair of headphones from Scott and went into the development office into a comfy chair and wrote. I spent my whole afternoon writing and editing and writing some more. At 12, I finished my rough draft and we called it a day. I hope to finish this piece by next Tuesday, so I have some time to edit and produce a great piece, not that it isn't great already! There was only one home game, as a lot of teams had away games, and it was a tennis match, but it got canceled so we didn't have any athletic responsibilities. Tomorrow we don't have anything planned other than attending the athletic contests. Check Facebook and Twitter for the schedule, score updates, livestream links, and more!

Day 4 (5-4-17)

Today was supposed to start at 9:00 am, but I had to take my brother to the doctors so I didn't make it in until 9:30. My day started off with publishing the softball spotlight and I thought I would be working on my individual piece, but Chloe, who works in the Alumni Office, asked if we could help her out with something. That something was emailing the alums that we didn't have an address for. I thought how hard could that be and then I saw the list of alums. There were 400 people on the list! Luckily we had a template for the email so we didn't have to write every one, but we did have to switch the names and make sure the names matched the email address. Although this wasn't hard, it was very time consuming and you had to stay focused so you didn't send an email to Bob on Sally's email. This took us about two hours and 30 minutes and we finished up around noon. We have been very productive this week and have completed most of our tasks for the week. when we finished up at noon, we went to lunch in Concord and came back in time for Eamonn's practice. Since I missed the first 30 minutes of the morning, I went to the baseball game to take pictures and tweet the scores. Luckily they were still winning as I left. Today showed me that not all jobs are fun and easy, there are some jobs that you just don't want to do but they need to be done and after you finish you feel really good. Tomorrow I think I will finally work on my own project for the website.

Day 3 (5-3-17)

Today started at 9:00 am in the office. The big project for the day was to complete the softball team spotlight. We received the responses the night before and we got down to work. At first, Eamonn and I started writing together, but he stopped and started working on formatting and I finished the article. Once I wrote the first draft I did a little bit of editing and then Scott looked at it and fixed the rest. When it was finished we put it into the blog and scheduled it to post tomorrow morning. This took up the majority of the morning and we finished up at around 10:45. After we posted we talked to Natasha who is on the communications team and one of her roles is that she is in charge of the Snapchat. She gave us the username and password so we could use it in the future. After talking to her we posted the game schedule and live stream links to the four home games since it is a game day. We finished up in the office at around 11:30, just in time for lunch. We ate lunch and went to our respective practices and at 2:30 we went out to the softball and boys jv lax game to support and tweet. We were also there just in case pin room or any of the teams needed help. Luckily everything ran smoothly and we weren’t used. We did tweet the games sitting through the wind and rain, but we got two wins which was a good way to end the day. The games ended at around 4:00 bringing our total hours for the day to 4! Today was a very productive day and tomorrow we hope to work on our own individual projects. Stay tuned!

Day 2 (5-2-17)

Day two started at 9:00 am in Scott's office. The plan for the day was going around campus and taking pictures of senior projects in action and we also continued getting interviews of fellow seniors. We started the morning documenting Matt Arruda work with Ethney and then we made our way to the turf and saw the progress that Tate and Peter were making on their seating. Then we went back to check in with Scott at the office and we sent an email to Erica Wheeler with questions for the softball spotlight that is going to be sent out at the end of the week. At 10:30 we visited Kelly and she helped us make a list of all of the projects that were either on campus or close to campus so we could find them to take more pictures. We left Kelly's and saw more progress on the turf and we went to the Imagination Inn, the wood shop, Slocum, and Ragged Mountain Physical Therapy to take some more pictures. We went back to the office at 11:30. In the office we each did our own projects. My project was looking for Andover students who are going to graduate Proctor this spring and find out what they are doing next year and good pictures of them. Next, we found all of the varsity coaches and emailed them asking them if they have any student athletes who will be continuing their journey at the collegiate level. When we got those names we started emailing them and we are waiting for responses. We also posted the link to sign up for the 5th Annual Proctor 5k and scheduled a post for tomorrow. Hopefully we can get responses soon so we can put the pieces together soon. Overall, today was a good day and I can't wait to get back at it tomorrow!

Day 1 (5-1-17)

Today was the first day of senior project. Eamonn and I met with Scott Allenby at 9:00 am in his office and we started talking about the big picture of our project. We talked about Proctor's marketing and communication strategies and who our main audiences will be. After this, we set up a Trello account. Trello is an online planner where you can put in all of your projects and you can organize them by category. Our three main categories are Communication/Marketing, Alumni, and Athletics.
Some of the projects that we are going to tackle are writing a spotlight on the softball team, each writing a piece for the website, helping out on gamedays (either by doing the clock, live tweeting games, setting up, etc.), and we hope to end our project with the Alumni games as a big event. At 10:00 am, Scott had to go to assembly, so Eamonn and I talked to Chloe Duchesne who is the head of the alumni association. We talked about more potential project ideas. When Scott got back from assembly, we went to the communications team meeting. The communications team has their own Trello and they basically go over it and plan out what they are going to put out for the week. We came out of the meeting with another project idea. They were hoping to get a piece in the alumni magazine of memories of the class of 2017, so Eamonn and I walked around campus looking for our fellow classmates to interview. At 11:00 we left the office for lunch and we would meet with Scott and Gregor at 2:00. At 2:00, we met in the athletic function room, but Gregor got stuck in meetings so Scott got us signed up on Hubspot which is how we manage our social media accounts. Since it was a game day, we posted the schedule and the livestream link to the lax game. We met in the afternoon for an hour bringing our total hours for the day to 3. I finished my day at the lacrosse game tweeting out the scores after every quarter. It was a good first day and I am looking forward to continue working with Scott and Eamonn.
